Importance of Story Locations:
-Where the story takes place in, impacts the characters actions as well as his perception of himself and others around him
-Sometimes a location can be created to serve the plot Eg. Increase the tension, force a decision, etc.
-Films are like ‘created locations’
Location Representation:
-Sometimes represents the ‘villain’ in a story Eg. LOST, Prison Break, Jurassic Park
Creating Believable Locations:
-Tour books/brochures
-Interviews with travelers who have been to the location
-Combining elements of several locations – geographical position, climate, rules (spoken and unspoken)
The Godfather:
Streets: Vito exhibits a silent confidence while on the street – overpowered by the crowd
Fanucci is arrogant and haughty – crowd kowtows to him (attracts attention)
Cafe: Vito is restraining his feelings (angry/irritated) towards Fanucci -
Fanucci still thinks himself as mighty – pinches Vito’s cheek
Rooftops:Allowed Vito to attain his goal while maintaining his confidence; he looks down on Fanucci
House: Gives Vito a chance to ambush Fanucci
